What is the FE Exam?

To pursue a professional engineering license, you must pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam . The exam is not a graduation requirement, but most K-State Mechanical Engineering students take it during their Junior or Senior year. Who should take the FE Exam?

Any student who has reached junior status is eligible to take the FE exam; however, the department's recommendation is to take it the semester BEFORE the semester in which you graduate.

Does K-State offer an FE Exam Review?

Yes, each semester the K-State chapter of Pi Tau Sigma organizes FE Review sessions. To view the current semester schedule, click here.


What are the exam registration deadlines?

To take the exam in October, the following 2 deadlines must be met:

August 1- deadline to register with the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions (KSBTP). The following link explains what to do: http://www.kansas.gov/ksbtp/STEPS.html

September 1 - deadline to register with the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). Payment to take the exam will be required at this time.

 

To take the exam in April, the following 2 deadlines must be met:

March 1

- deadline to register with the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). Payment to take the exam will be required at this time.
