Driving Directions from Kansas City International Airport to K-State in Manhattan Kansas

Ask the Car Rental agent to give you a map and directions to I-29 North and I-70 West.

From the airport, follow the airport exit signs to I-29 NORTH (I-29 runs close by the airport). (You may also see the sign showing Topeka. Topeka is before Manhattan on I-70 West)

Go NORTH on I-29  about three miles take I-435 WEST (Exit number 17)

Go about 20 miles on I-435. It becomes I-435 South somewhere along the way. (I-435 is a "beltway" around Kansas City.) Take the I-70 WEST exit. This exit is also
the Topeka exit and the Kansas Turnpike Exit. The Exit number is 12.

From Kansas City to Topeka, the Kansas Turnpike (KTA) and I-70 are the same highway (It is a toll road). Go about 40 miles on I-70/KTA. Just as you get to Topeka take the Topeka/I-70 exit.

After I-70 exits the KTA, stay on I-70 for about 50 miles to the Manhattan exit. It is exit number 313. Go NORTH (right) on HWY 177.

Continue north on 177 for about 8 miles to reach Manhattan. As the highway comes into Manhattan, you'll cross the Kansas River.

As you cross the bridge over the river, stay to the right side and circle right back to your right.  This will take you to K-18 (Fort Riley Blvd.). Go right on Fort Riley Blvd. (K-18 West, back under the bridge).

Go about 1 mile on Fort Riley Blvd. There will be several stop lights along the way. Turn right (NORTH) on 17th street. There is a stop light on this corner.

17th street dead ends into the KSU campus. It is about 10-15 blocks from Fort Riley Blvd.

Just as you get to the KSU campus (after crossing Anderson Ave.), there will be a traffic control booth on the right side of the street. Visitors are encouraged to stop at the control booth and get a complimentary parking permit to park on campus.  If you wish to get the permit, go on the right side of the booth.

You will see the Student Union Building. You can park in the Union parking lot, if space available.  Otherwise, ask for directions to the West Stadium parking lot.

The Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Department is in the Engineering Complex, Rathbone Hall room 3002. Office telephone number is 785-532-5610.
